Shaving Your Legs
So I guess the first question is when should you start shaving your legs. Most girls start shaving their legs by the age of 14. There is no right time to start and if you can avoid doing it till you're older then take the opportunity! I recommened you start shaving when your friends do. You don't need to be the first one but it's not nice to be the last one either.
Shaving your legs requires maintenance. You need to know that when you start shaving your legs you will need to keep doing it. Your legs will become stubbly when the hair grows back which is quite unattractive.
Shaving your legs is quite simple. The first thing you need to do is pick a razor. Start with a disposable before you spend a lot of money on one that you only can only change the blade. If you have sensitive skin make sure you buy a razor for sensitive skin or you will get a bad shaving rash!
Second figure out where you're going to shave your legs. Most girls do it in the shower but it might be an idea to wait until you're a bit more experienced. For the first time you want to do it carefully so you don't cut yourself so a steamy shower isn't the ideal place. You could do it over the bath or with one leg in the sink.
Wet your legs completely then lather on some body wash, shaving gel or conditioner. It doesn't really matter which. Body wash works fine but shaving gel gives you a close shave. With your razor gently slide it from the bottom of your leg up (this is the opposite direction of the hair growth) using long strokes. So from your ankle slide up to your knee and from your knee slide up to your upper thigh or where you want to stop shaving. Rinse your razor occasionally to clean off all the foam from the body wash. Continue this until you have done both of your legs.
Tip: If you're a beginner I highly recommend you shaving the bottom half of your legs (ankle to knee) for the first time. If you happen to cut yourself or get a shaving rash then at least the top half of your legs will be okay.
Now a tricky part girls have is their knee. Some girls just don't shave their knees at all because hair doesn't tend to grow much there but if you have hairy knees this is how you do it. Shave around the knee cap as you would normally do the rest of your legs then do the knee cap in short horizontal strokes, then go over the knee carefully again to remove any excess hair. Remember practice makes perfect! (:
Once you've finished shaving rinse your razor under cold water and put the lid back on! Many people don't do this, but it keeps the razor clean which will avoid you getting cuts the next time you shave. You should change your razor every 1-2 months but it really depends on how often you shave. Once you feel like you aren't getting a close shave anymore or the razor has hair stuck in it or is rusting throw it out. If you have a razor that isn't disposable you'll need to change the blade.
If you get cut rinse the cut under cold water. This will stop the bleeding faster. Then put a small piece of tissue on it, the blood will keep it stuck to you leg but don't wear pants or it will fall off. There's nothing you can do about it except don't cut yourself again and watch out for the cut next time shave.
Girls with normal skin can moisturize and go on with their day.
Girls with sensitive skin should rinse their legs with cold water after shaving to close their pores and pat their legs dry. Also try and resist the urge to itch them, it will only make things worse. Try different razors brands until you find one that doesn't irritate your skin. Leaving your legs to 'air' after shaving also helps lessen the irritation. You can do this just by wearing shorts or rolling your pants up. Patting your legs with talc after shaving can also help.
