Sick of shaving? You're not the only one!
For anyone who's been shaving for a while it's easy to say shaving can be a pain in the bum! Red rashes, cuts, nicks, stubble and that inbearable itch! So here are a few things you can consider trying if you want to chuck that razor out, for good!
Waxing:
Waxing is quite a popluar alternative to shaving. It consists of spearding a sticky substance over the part of your body, placing on a rag and then ripping it off. The hair sticks to the rag and taa daa it's gone. But is it really that easy? Nope. Waxing is a time consuming and painful experience depending on which body part your doing. The main reason people wax is to be hairless for longer as it rips the hairs right out from the roots therefore it takes longer to grow back.
Pros: It's great for small areas such as in between your eyebrows and your bikini area (although quite painful to wax). The hair stays away for longer (or so they say...) If you wax a lot eventually there becomes less hair, the opposite to shaving.
Cons: The biggest reason girls are afraid to wax is for the pain. The pain really depends on how high or low your pain tollerence is. It feels like a sharp sting and itches a bit after. It's probably not as bad as you think so give it a go, if you're crying in pain (which you won't be) just switch back to shaving. Waxing dosen't give you a smooth feeling like shaving does, it may make your legs dry and flaky so you'll need to moisturze daily. If one day you decide to stop waxing the hair will grow very long. I'm talking inches here. Waxing is also quite hard to do yourself, do-it-yourself home waxing kits are often very crap and don't remove much hair. Never buy wax stripes, I can't even begin to explain to you how bad they are.
Fact: Women have a higher pain tollerence to men because they have to give birth.
What I would recomend if you want a great wax is to go to a sallon. They're professionals so they won't miss a spot, they also know the best techniques etc. You might even learn a thing or two from watching them and then you can attempt it at home. If you decide to wax at home stick to smaller areas such as bikin area, in between eyebrows and your legs from the knee down.
Hair Removal Cream:
Hair removal cream is practically what it's called, a cream that removes hair. You spread the cream thickly over your legs (or wherever you want to remove the hair) and leave it on for the directed time. This is usually between 3 to 10 minutes. After you can hop in the shower or scrape it off yourself. Hair removal cream sounds simple but here are some pros and cons.
Pros: Hair removal cream leaves your legs feeling really smooth after using it, but this isn't because it's removed the hair it's just because of the ingredients in the cream. The hair is said to stay away for longer than shaving but this really depends of how well you use it, I find I might get an extra day or two. I find hair removal cream is best for small areas such as toe hair, feet hair, stomach hair but not your face or bikini area. Never ever use hair removal cream on your face or pubic area!
Cons: Hair removal cream is quite expensive, this really depends on your budget and how much you're willing to pay, it also has quite a strong smell but it's nothing you won't get used to. It can be a bit of a challenge to use hair removal cream on large areas such as your legs because there are just some ways your body won't turn and you have to get the cream evenly spread everywhere on your legs. If you don't be prepared for some random patches of hair.
Tip: After shaving, waxing or using hair removal cream it's a good idea to go in the sun and try and find patches of hair you've missed as neither way is full proof.
A couple of girls have asked about epilators but I don't feel I can write about them as I have not tried them. Sorry, I'll look into giving my mum's one a go!
